Sarah McKibbin opened Duke Hare on Scotland Road in 2016. We have been the original barbers of Stanwix ever since: skin fades, beard shape-ups, restyles and everyday cuts, booked online or over the phone.
Sarah still leads from the chair as owner and master barber, alongside senior barbers Albo and Macca and our junior barber Kayleigh.
Children aged 3 to 13 and pensioners have their own prices, and the board covers skin fades, scissor cuts for longer hair, beard trims and waxing.
In 2023 we were named Best Barbers Cumbria at the England Business Awards. Gloria, our Labrador, is usually first to say hello.

I’ve been going here for a while now, and I genuinely wouldn’t go anywhere else. Sarah is brilliant – I’m pretty fussy when it comes to my hair and beard, and she always takes the time to listen, make suggestions, and get everything spot on. You never feel rushed, and it’s clear she really cares about the result. The whole team creates such a welcoming atmosphere. It’s one of those places where you actually look forward to your appointment, not just the haircut. Great chat, great service, and consistently great results. I’d happily recommend this place to anyone looking for a barber who genuinely takes pride in what they do. And then there’s Gloria, the dog. Quite possibly the greatest dog on the planet. If the shop offered a loyalty scheme that ended with me being allowed to move in and hang out with Gloria full-time, I’d seriously consider it. Fantastic people, fantastic cuts, and an all-round fantastic experience. Highly recommended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
